On separate sheet we beg to hand you copy of telegram we took the liberty of sending you this morning, but up to the time of writing we have not been favoured by any reply.

Our telegram gives in a condensed form the details of the reason for our appeal to you, and we may mention that there is a considerable and legitimate business done regularly between Hongkong and Peru, this having been carried on until recently by means of sailing vessels direct to and from Callao or by steamer via San Francisco and Panama. We have considerable interests in Peru and our Lima House took part in the formation a few months ago of a Company organized for the purpose of running steamers direct between China and Peru, the "KENSINGTON" being the first boat chartered with this object. She took out Coals to Callao, where she loaded general cargo and passengers for Hongkong and now we understand she is ready to start on her return voyage to Callao, but difficulties have been raised by the Governor of Hongkong, although the sailing license which was at first refused has been granted.
